✧ This page uses a compact selection of Matthew Henry Concise style notes for popular passages (John 3:16, Psalm 23, etc.). If a verse is not found, you’ll see a gentle message instead of an error.
For God so loved the world — here we see the fountain of our salvation: the free, undeserved love of God. He loved not because the world was lovely, but to make lost sinners His own. He gave His only-begotten Son, the greatest gift heaven could offer, that whoever believes in Him should not perish in their guilt, but have everlasting life.
To believe in Christ is more than agreeing with facts about Him; it is to rest the soul upon Him as the only Savior, to receive Him, and to commit ourselves to Him. Those who thus believe, though once far from God, are brought into His family and share a life that death itself cannot destroy.
